Q: Depression Medication?
I need to know of some depression medication I could take that won’t make me gain any weight. Can someone please tell me?
A: All of the SSRI’s initially cause a small bit of weight loss-about 5# or so, but with longer term use (which is indicated in most cases) they all cause weight gain. The only medication that tends to be effective and doesn’t cause weight gain (and has the added benefit of decreasing nicotine cravings) is Wellbutrin which is an SNRI. Effexor and Cymbalta are less likely to result in weight gain too as they are both combined SSRI/SNRI and the SNRI sort of balances the SSRI induced weight gain.
Q: Depression medication?
I feel like I am depressed. I feel that every time I have to leave my home and loved ones even for a few hours I am in lack of a better word dying inside. I feel like my whole life is a mess and I can never just relax. Am I depressed? Should I take depression medication?
A: You sound depressed. And depression medication in conjunction with therapy is the most effective solution.
You could also try some natural remedies like St. John’s Wort or 5-HTP
Q: depression medication?
Hey…. just want your opinion. I was on depression medicationf for the last year (effexor). I found that it often made me feel more depressed during bad situations and twice tried to overdose on the medication. (i promise i’m not crazy) I stopped taking it after the last incident… about 2 weeks ago and have felt so much better. Happier, more energy, motivation, etc. I know that i have anxiety problems…. when I think of a a bad situation… i can’t get it out of my head and make myself sick thinking about it.
i read an article today saying that people sometimes just have the blues rather than depression.
my questions: how do you know if it is the blues or depression (i get devestated after break ups… moreso than normal people… i can’t function).
should i be on anxiety med instead of depression?
why do i feel better now that i have stopped taking the med? should i get on something? if so, what works?
i THINK is depression. i have been sad/upset for no reason for the last 9 months but it def got worse after my breakup in february.
Efforxor sometimes helps, but (sorry boys) when I am on my period, makes me almost suicidal. I get so depressed and just do not know what to do. I am 24, very successful and a very lucky girl, but when i get upset, it is bad. I have tried to overdose on the med 2 times… either b/c of anxiety or depression… i honestly don’t remember what i was thinking either time.
A: what worked for me was not meds but other more natural things. A ton of exercize took away the anxiety (as well as drinking less caffeine) then, everyday waking up and telling yourself its going to be a great day and you won’t let yourself or anyone else bring you down. Then visualising positive events happening in the future, with affirmations (http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/the_dilbert_blog/2006/10/affirmations.html), also spending time alone every day and just contemplating all that is around me, giving thanks before every meal reminded me that i’m actually lucky.. Its about what you DO not about solving your problems logically.
Q: Depression–medication?
I have known for many years that I have depression (although my family tried to ignore it, and my therapist downplayed it). It began from a very young age, and I’m pretty sure that a hormonal imbalance didn’t originally cause it. However, it has become so bad lately that no amount of mental re-training works. I know I’m living a great life, but I’m never happy about it, and I can’t make myself happy. I’m happy around people who aren’t particularly close to me, but those close to me have become tired of dealing with me.
How do I look into going on a medication, and what do you recommend? It’s a unipolar depression (more often than not, I’m unhappy), and anxiety is not the main factor, but it does play a part (in social and performing situations, I get more and more nervous, and I want to be better before my junior recital). It’s mainly due to a deficient self-image that I have tried to fix unsuccessfully for years.
A lot of this sounds very helpful, but much of it is also rather impersonal, so a bit of background:
I’m in college, taking a break for the summer, looking for a job. I don’t have friends who live in my town. I have a boyfriend who visits no more than twice a month (we go to school together, but getting to my house is a bit of a hike for him). I can’t drive because although I have my license, I have no insurance (which will change, but it keeps me from getting out much). I am Christian, and that is what keeps me going. And my sister works a rather early shift, so I hang out with her a lot.
A: You describe me!
I went to a psychiatrist and they prescribe medication. Currently, I am taking Abilify and that works the best! I also have fatigue with the depression – and Abilify works wonders.
I also go to counseling.
I try to associate with positive people
I take Klonopin in anxiety producing situations – but only 1mg (usually 0.5mg) because I need to be careful b/c this medicine is addictive.
I live a spiritual life.
Hope this helps. Good luck
Q: Does depression medication really work and if so how?
I know everyone gets depressed at times and can have a hard time dealing with it. Just wondering the affects of depression medication. What is the cost of the medication? Any web sites online to help identify if one is clinically depressed?
A: Just google depression and it should have some kind of test you can take. I started taking lexapro about four weeks ago and it really helped me. At first it is a hard adjustment, but when it kicks in you will feel pretty great. I never knew what normal felt like. I had been depressed all my life and never really knew how bad I was until now.. Alot of people think it is something you can just snap out of but you can’t. Get the help you need. Alot of doctors will give you samples and that will help you with your expenses. Good luck to you!!
Q: How do you get depression medication when you’re broke?
I have not been diagnosed with depression. But I have been asking to go to the doctor for several years now to be checked for depression and my mom refused to take me or pay for any of this. (I basically know that I am, I guess I just need a professional’s assurance.) Now I’m 18 and have NO extra money whatsoever to go see a doctor, let alone pay for medication if diagnosed. I don’t know anything about insurance. Help!
A: If you are in the US…there is probably a county mental health clinic/department in your area. They work on a sliding scale, based on income. It’s worth checking into, it’s a good starting point. There are programs that can help you get the medication you need, but first things first. You should be evaluated by a mental health professional. Depression is a very serious illness, but it is treatable. Not getting you the help you need and are asking for borders on medical neglect.
Q: What are symptoms of being on a depression medication and using Preparation H?
I just got put on depression medication for my anxiety, and I also have a hemmoroid. So I purchased some preparation H and come to find out it says you should ask doctor before use if you are on a depression medication. Well, my doctor is not there on the weekends and I want to take care of this hemmeroid right away. What can happen to me if the two are used simultaneously?
A: The active ingredient in Prep-H is an adrenergic drug known as phenylephrine. Through a variety of complex pathways, these drugs cause vasoconstriction (reduced blood flow) at the application site, which effectively reduces the discomfort of hemorrhoids. They can also result in a slight increase in blood pressure through the body. Antidepressants (and more specifically, tricyclic antidepressants), can potentiate this effect (make it stronger), thus further increasing systemic blood pressure.
They put the info on the box, so that if you already have high blood pressure AND take a TCA, you should take note and check with your doctor. If your BP is normal, it’s not going to be a big deal.
Q: DEpression medication???
1) how badly would you fall back into depression if you stopped taking them?
2) how long does it take before they take effect>? 3-4 weeks
3) can you stop taking them…what are the results…besides the depression part?
A: 1. yes you can fall back into it and possibly worse
2. usually three weeks for effect…sometimes folks get symtoms within a week..
3.docs do not suggest JUST STOPPING this can be bad for you both mentally and physically. side efffects from stopping disconnected, headaches, buzzing in head, sleep problems, etc.
Q: How much does anti-anxiety or depression medication actual affect your mood?
How much does anti-anxiety or depression medication actual affect your mood? What have you seen?
A: It hink anti-depressants help you to sooth ur brain cells which get tangled with too much thinking such as fear/anxiety/insecutiry. They kind of put these cells to sleep so these wont bother your normal brain functioning. I have seen ppl (with really bad temper) ease up by taking such anti-depressants. But i have observed some negetive effect of such medication that it kind of makes the person a bit lazy/easy-going. I mean, easy going by natural / normal nature is OK but when you feel a bit inactive due to medication, that is kind of scary because it feels as if you are not ready to take any further stress and if u r young and ambitious, this kind of medication might even effect your enthusiasm.
I may be wrong. But the above is only an observation of a patient taking such medication.
Q: Can i take medical marijuana for pain and take anti-depression medication at the same time?
Can i take medical marijuana for pain and take anti-depression medication at the same time?
I’m taking anti depression medication (celexa, & Bupropion) for couple of months now. I also have pain in my joints that I have been taking pain medication with little improvements. Now I was thinking of using alternative relief like medical marijuana. Would I have to stop taking my other medications in order to use it?
A: Medicinal marijuana is only available by prescription,in most states it is illegal to have it otherwise.
Normally medicinal marijuana is used for extreme cases of glaucoma (an ocular disease).
I am not sure what the mixing of your anti-depressants and using marijuana would do but since you need a prescription in order to legally use it,asking your doctor would solve the whole question on the ordeal.
Q: Has anyone use anti-depression medication for their whole pregnancy and breast feeding?
I want to go back on anti-depression meds but I also want to have a child soon. I have been doing research and there are conflicting studies in regards to anti-depression medication use during pregnancy. I would like to know first hand of anyone who continued to use these types of meds before, during and after pregnancy, and if there were any health issues with the child.
A: I have with all three of my pregnancies. The only two that are regularly recommended are Wellbutrin (although with strong monitoring in the third trimester) and Zoloft (generally seen as safe). If the benefits-risks assessment shows you need to be on something else though, some doctors will just take a very close monitoring approach so you can be the most mentally healthy through your pregnancy and postpartum period.
That is what mental health meds are about in pregnancy. The benefits of the meds versus minor risks (yes, they are present no matter which med you take) have to be strong. I was on Paxil before all of the pregnancies, but that one is strongly not recommended, so I switched to Zoloft with each one. It works, just not as well for me and I have to be diligent about therapy and self-monitoring. With babies one and three I nursed on Zoloft as well (baby number two was not nursed for medical reasons having nothing to do with medication or mental health).
My children are happy, healthy, and generally well adjusted (although my daughter has a pathological fear of spiders! lol). There were no complications in the pregnancies and no affects to be seen as of yet. My children are still young (the oldest is 4), but I do not see a single reason to think that the meds have affected them at all. They are all bright and quick to catch onto things, so I see no learning issues. They def benefit from having a medicated mother (my OCD issues would be the downfall of the whole house if I was not medicated). Talk to your doctor about it beforehand, as it would be best to adjust to the meds before getting pregnant (although you can certainly do it in early pregnancy as well). Good luck
Q: how can i get rid of this feeling of depression with out medication?
i think im depressed and i really dont know what to do about it. im sick of being unhappy all the time and my mood is affecting how i swim and my grades. how can i get rid of this feeling with out depression medication?
A: Therapy – formally or informally. Get plenty of sunshine – genuinely does help, will boost your energy too. Don’t withdraw, however tempting that may seem, you’ll only feel more isolated. And, um, sex/masturbation. No, seriously! There was a report in the news recently that said going from having sex once a month to once a week had an equivalent rise in happiness to getting a raise of several thousand! It’s the endorphins. (You can get some from exercise too.)
Q: What do you do if all the depression medication you take makes you feel sick and very tired?
When I was put on depression medicated it made me feel sick. No matter how many times the doctor changed my medication I still felt real bad physical.
A: Side effects are possible. It is better to have two symptoms, than three. Ask your doctor if they are normal side effects.
You will tell me that your depression is chemical.
well, I will tell you that if you find 20 people to just shower with attention and try to make their lives as comfortable on this earth as possible, before they leave here. That cloud of depression will soon dissipate.
Q: Can i take medical merquina for pain and take anti-depression medication at the same time?

A: if u are talking about marijuana, it’s used for cancer patients so they will be able to eat, i doubt they will prescribe it to you
Q: what is the strongest medication i can take for my anxiety and depression ?
i am taking lexapro right now but it stoped working. i have treated my self in the past with marijuana, and it seemed to help me the most, but every one tells me it will only make me worst, even though i had worst side efects with the lexapro, but any way if i shouldint use marijuana to treat my debilitating mood disorder what is the strongest depression medication they have out there, is it posable to find some thing that works as good as marijuana. thanks for your help.
A: Here’s a quote from my psychotherapist.
“All kinds of anxiety/depression medications out there and they STILL can’t come up with a better medication for it than MARIJUANA.”
So there you go. Otherwise, see your doctor…there might be another medication that works better for you than the Lexapro.
