Q: What kind of pet medication does your pet take and how much is it monthly?
Just curious. Does anyone have pet insurance or some type of plan that gives you a discount on medication for your animal?
A: My dog is only on flea meds which are preventative, but she doesn’t take any other kind of medication.
I have pet insurance for her through Trupanion and I know that they would cover any medications if she were to get sick. Like if she got some chronic illness that would last the rest of her life, they would pay for the medications for the rest of her life (90% of the cost).
Pet insurance is a good idea to look into!
Q: Is it safe to purchase pet medication online? All responses/experiences welcome!?
My vet has been charging me $99 per six month supply of Revolution for my two small pets (prevents heartworms & flea/tick infestation). This equates to $396 per year for both animals. I found the same medication, I think, online at Joe’s Pet Meds for $55 per six month supply w/ free shipping. This would equate to a savings of $176 per year, which I think is pretty substantial. I looked into several online retailers and I thought this one looked like the most reputable although it is located in Austrailia… I know I can’t be charged with a crime as this type of pet medication is available over the counter. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Guess I could mention that this is a “topical” treatment. You just drip it on the pet’s skin once a month. Thanks.
A: I actually would not recommend purchasing your pets medications from online unlicensed “pharmacies”.
Do NOT buy from 1-800-pet meds, Petmeds or any other online pet medication services! 1-800 pet meds is not a licensed pharamacy. It is your Vet’s job to look out for the safelty of your pet. Your Vet can be held legally responsible if they write a script for 1-800 because it is VERY rare that Petmeds provides you with the correct, quality medication that you could otherwise purchase from your vet for typically around the same price. I do suggest you check out different prices through Vet offices in your area. Our Vet clinic is cheaper or as expensive as ALL the medications found on these internet companies.
Internet sites are largly unlicensed and unregulated by any state or federal agancy. Some companies, like 1-800 Petmeds, have been getting and selling products illegally. Some medications that have expired have been repackaged. Medications meant for distribution to Austrailia and other FOREIGN markets have also been obtained by these companies. Clients have received medications having instructions in a foreign language! Many of these internet companies have been prosecuted for selling COUNTERFEIT medications that are cheap medications or worse, harmful to the person or animal taking them.
Some sites buy cheap medications in THIRD WORLD countries where quality control is poor or doesn’t even exist, and repackage and resell them at huge profit as licensed drugs from the United States which they certaintly are NOT. Other scams involve the numbers of tablets or medications. Drugs such as Heartguard and Frontline come in 6 or 12 counts from the manufactorer. Many consumers buy the large size thereby getting additional tablets or medications free. The internet companies don’t want you to know that there are 6 and 12 packs or that you can actually get free product from your verterinarian (at my office… you purchase 6 months of Frontline and get one dose free).
Did you know that guarentees offered by the drug companies are VOID once the product is purchased over the internet by one of these companies? It’s true!!
Purchasing questionable or substandard medications is not the answer- you are wasting your money and risking your pet’s health.
The main question you need to ask yourself is: Is saving money worth the peace of mind of the health of you pet?
Q: Is there a pet medication website that does not require prescriptions?
I want to get my puppy some heartworm preventive medication without having to take her to the vet to do so.
A: You really should check with your vet first and give your new pet a check up, it can be very dangerous to give pets medication without so. Your pet could have any number of conditions that you are unaware about and medication could serioursly hurt him/her. All dogs/cats need to go on heartworm as a preventative but you should check with your vet. Just to let you know, you do not need a prescription for heartowrm medication anyways……
Q: Is it legal to sell pet medication that you animal won’t take?
I recently got an Rx for a pain medication for my dog. It did not sit well with his system so he only took 2 or 3 of the tablets. I still have almost a 30 day supply and they are quite expensive. Was hoping I could save someone some money by passing them along.
A: That depends entirely on the medicine as to whether or not it is legal… what was it? It’s probably not a good idea to sell it though, I’m sure your vet wouldn’t approve… and it won’t be easy to find a buyer unless it is someone you know.
To everyone who said yes, some pet medications are controlled substances and you would get into the same trouble as if you were selling oxycontin or similar opioids to humans.
If you can tell me what it is I’ll tell you if it’s controlled or if it can be sold…
Q: Is it safe to buy pet medication over the internet? My cat was diagnosed with renal disease and the vet perscr?
prescribed her three expensive medications. I noticed that they are a lot cheaper online, but since I’ve never bought medication of any kind over the internet I’m not sure its trustworthy. Please help. Thanks
A: From 1800petmeds or Drs. Foster-Smith – most other places – absolutely not. There’s lots of websites selling what they say are specific meds and they really aren’t – they’re dangerous chemicals from overseas.
Q: Is there anywhere online to buy the pet medication Clindamycin Hydrochloride Oral drops without a prescription?
A: But what are the reasons for you wanting to self-medicate your cat?
Q: Which pet medication sites sell genuine pet meds?
I had heard somewhere that Pet Meds site was not selling authentic vet medicine. Is this true? Are there sites that sell authentic pet medicines on the internet?
A: 1800petmeds.com
I just got my dog her fFrontline from there. They came in within 3 days.
Q: What’s the cheapest place to buy my pet medication?
I use comfortis for flea prevention and heart guard for heart worm prevention… if there are better products out there let me know. i prefer an oral med because i have a yorkie (small dog less than 8 pounds)and i bath her often and i heard that the flea and tick meds that you have to apply to thier back isnt as affective if you bath them often. let me know what you think…

Q: Can the pet medication, Sentinel for dogs be used on cats?
I’m out of my cat’s medication, but I have the same med for my dogs handy. Thanks
A: Never use a dog product on a cat. Cats are more sensitive to things and because they lick themselves can ingest toxic amounts of whatever is in there.
Q: Do pet stores sell medication for mites and parasites?
My guinea pig has been scratching herself constantly & i think
that she might have mites or parasites. I havent bathed her yet, i bought her from the pet store not too long ago. I now that taking her to the vet is the #1 best option but is there anything i could buy her that will help her to get rid of it? Also, about how much would it cost to take her to the vet?
A: I think going to the vet is the best idea. Your Guinea Pig should be checked for why it is scratching. It could be mange or mites or other health problems. Either way if you have only had the pig a short time, the store that it came from might be having a problem with their other animals and they may need treatment as well.
Q: Whats the best pet arthritis medication?
What were the results?

Q: Do you think I can live with a pet allergy without medication?
I think I might be allergic to my daughter’s new puppy. My skin itches in random places at random times or if I hold her, then my arm and wrist itch, or if she plays at my feet and jumps on my legs, then my legs and feet itch, or if I snuggle her under my chin, then my chin itches. I can’t bear the thought of not handling her, she’s too cute. I also can’t bear the thought of giving her away ’cause we’ve all fallen in love with her. She’s already a big part of the family. I do not take medications on a daily basis and don’t want to start. I only take the occasional headache medicine. I used to be allergic to cats when I was younger and I got over that ’cause now I have three indoor-only cats. I wonder if it’s possible that I might just get over this puppy allergy, too. Any ideas?
A: I am guessing this itchiness does not last otherwise you would be itching all over and insane by now. So I would say if you FEEL like you can live with it then you can. I would suggest washing up after holding the dog, by getting the dander off of you it might lessen the itching. I would also give the dog fish oil mixed in with it’s food it will reduce dander a bit and could probably help you. (As well as improve the dog’s skin quality.. never a bad thing for a dog.)
Q: Do They Make a Medication to Fight Against Pet Allergies?
I just hate to read in the clasified ads about people giving away animals because they’re ‘allergic’. Is there no medication that will help against allergies towards pets, especially cats or dogs?
My dad has always been allergic to cats and we have three right now. He has a runny nose but he still lets them stay with us.
The worst to see is when it’s an older animal. I once saw an ad asking to take a 12 year old golden retriever because of ‘allergies.’
A: Some people are *highly* allergic to animals, and therefore don’t have them. Others can take anything from Claritin-D to Benadryl and be ok around animals. Usually if someone is giving away a pet due to allergies, it’s because either they don’t really want it, or in some rare cases, they can’t afford antihistamines.
